
Dr Maria Maimari is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon with a special interest in thoracic surgery and minimally invasive surgical techniques. She was born and raised in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Dr Maimari graduated from the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2009. Throughout her medical studies, she was awarded a scholarship by the Cyprus State Scholarships Foundation. Following the completion of her preregistration training, she commenced her residency training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Nicosia General Hospital, Cyprus. She subsequently continued her residency in Greece at the “Sotiria” Hospital for Chest Diseases in Athens and the “Ippokration” General Hospital of Athens, obtaining her specialist qualification in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2018 following successful completion of the relevant examinations conducted by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
In 2020, she completed a Joint Master’s Degree in Endovascular Techniques, jointly offered by the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of Milan.
Dr Maimari currently maintains a private practice in Cyprus and practises Cardiothoracic Surgery within the framework of the Cyprus General Healthcare System (GeSY). She operates at El Greco Medical Center in Nicosia and collaborates with private hospitals and specialised medical centres throughout Cyprus, offering the full spectrum of modern thoracic surgical procedures. She has a particular interest in minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques, including Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) and robotic surgery, and remains actively engaged with the latest developments in the field.
She is an active participant in the Thoracic Malignancies Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre and regularly attends international congresses, specialised training programmes, and surgical workshops across Europe, the United States, and China. Through continuous professional development, she remains up to date with the latest advances, technologies, and surgical techniques in thoracic surgery. Her scientific work has been published in both Greek and international medical journals.
Her surgical practice encompasses the entire spectrum of thoracic surgery, including both open and minimally invasive procedures. Her areas of expertise include lobectomies, pneumonectomies, lung and pleural biopsies, thymectomies, mediastinal tumour resections, the management of pleural effusions, and the treatment of a wide range of thoracic conditions.
Dr Maimari is an active member of the Cyprus Medical Association, the Athens Medical Association, the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), and the General Medical Council (GMC) of the United Kingdom. In 2025, she was elected President of the Cyprus Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, a position she currently holds.
