Overview
Dr. Georgios Markides is a highly accomplished Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with
extensive training in premier UK University Teaching Hospitals, including the Manchester Royal
Infirmary and St James’s University Hospital and permanent consultant experience (CCT) within the
UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
Specializing in advanced minimally invasive (laparoscopic) gastrointestinal surgery and complex
surgical oncology, Dr. Markides and his team have become established as a national referral centre in
Cyprus. He has successfully performed thousands of complex procedures and by combining precise
laparoscopic techniques with modern perioperative care protocols, he consistently delivers
international-standard outcomes and exceptional laparoscopic completion rates for complex
colorectal cancers and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

Clinical Expertise & Specialized Treatments
Dr. Markides utilizes cutting-edge laparoscopic and open surgical methodologies to prioritize accelerated recovery, lower morbidity, and optimal clinical outcomes.

  • Surgical Oncology & Advanced GI Malignancies: Laparoscopic colectomy (CME), Total Mesorectal Excision (TME), Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS) for early-stage rectal cancers and large benign polyps, and advanced Cytoreductive Surgery with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for peritoneal surface malignancies.
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Comprehensive surgical management of complex Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, including laparoscopic subtotal colectomies, proctectomies, and ileo-anal pouch reconstructions.
