Dr Nikolaos Mourtzis

He was born in Krete in 1966 and is the father of four children. He studied at the Medical School of Athens from where he received his degree in Medicine in 1992 and then did his specialty in cardiac surgery at the Onassis Cardiac Center where he had his first contact with aortic aneurysm surgery for which he showed particular interest.

He received the title of his specialty of Cardio thoracic surgery in 2002. Since 2002 he has been working as a specialist cardiac surgeon in private practice, where in addition to classical adult cardiac surgery he has been particularly involved in aortic surgery (aneurysms and acute aortic syndromes – hematomas and dissections of the ascending aorta and aortic arch – 40 aortic dissections in the past four years).

Since 2017,here in Cyprus, he has been the director of the department of cardiac surgery of the Mediterranean hospital of Cyprus, a department that is on call daily for cardiac emergencies with the largest volume related to aortic diseases. He was responsible for training medical students who come to Mediterranean Hospital for the quarter of their surgical training. Last year, in collaboration with the new vascular surgery department, the hybrid treatment team for aortic diseases (acute and chronic) was created.

In addition the mitral valvuloplastys was one of the upcoming surgical interesting’s of our department and of course the last years the thoracoscopic  surgery with the help of experienced colleagues from Europe and by ONASSIS CARDIAC CENTER OF ATHENS.

Dr Mourtzis is now from 2025  Dir. Of Cardiac Surg. DPT of Policlinic Ygeia Hosp. in Limassol and El Greco Hosp.  in Nicosia
